Healing Early Childhood Tooth Decay

I am a father of a precious 3.5 year old girl. We have successfully treated early childhood tooth decay for 2.5 years, without drugs, dentists, or surgery. I estimate we achieved an 85-98% reduction in the rate of tooth decay.

Two of my daughter's teeth are worn to the gum line, and are black. Even with this, her gums are healthy with no sign of infection. Cosmetically she has two worn front teeth, they don't look pretty, we are not going to do any cosmetic restoration.

The problem:

In the U.S., 27.9% of all children ages 2-5 have some tooth decay, with an average of about 5 out of every 100 children's teeth having some decay.
Centers for Disease Control: http://www.cdc.gov/MMWR/preview/mmwrhtml/ss5403a1.htm

Young children cannot sit still to undergo normal dental procedures. A mother's lap is okay for some quick dental treatments, but not for substantial dental treatments.

Developmentally, young children do not understand what a dentist is, or even what they are doing in a dental office. Children usually do not want people staring into their mouth's, and sticking things into their mouths. It takes a child until the age of 6-8 years to be capable of really understanding what a dental procedure is, and to be capable of going through a typical dental procedure without much trauma. When a dental procedure is performed prior to that age, it may be moderately to severely emotionally harmful for the child, because you are doing a medical procedure to them, against their will.

Local anesthesia usually does not work on young children because they cannot sit still even for a few minutes for a dental procedure. Local anesthesia may or may not be effective and it is difficult to tell if a young child's tooth and mouth is numb prior to dental surgery.

The other remaining possibilities for dental treatment are to rapidly pull teeth without anesthesia, and full anesthesia dental surgery.

With young children's bodies so delicate, full anesthesia surgery comes with the risk of death. The risk of death from full anesthesia surgery is very low, although I could not find a reliable and conclusive statistic. There is an approximate 35% risk of an adverse event from general anesthesia on young children which is about twice as high as adults. This is above and beyond the emotional shock and pain of the disassociated feelings caused by the anesthesia drugs.
Anesthesia and Analgesia: http://www.anesthesia-analgesia.org/cgi/content/abstract/70/2/160

General anesthesia surgery for tooth decay is costly, prices range from $2,000-$4,000 US.

Studies show with general anesthesia dental surgery:

23% of all children require further extractions and restorations
52% of children have a relapse within 4-6 months.
57% have new cavities in 6-24 months. (different study)
Journal of Canadian Dental Association: http://www.cda-adc.ca/jcda/vol-69/issue-5/304.pdf

In addition to the severe emotional pain for such a procedure, it is hardly effective. So why would we consider such a procedure when there is a suitable alternative?

Highlights Of Wisdom Surrounding Healing Early Childhood Tooth Decay:

  • The modern treatment for dental surgery dose not work, as it treats the symptoms of the problem, but does not treat the root of the problem.
  • Fluoride is a deadly poison, avoid it at all costs.
    Flouride Action Network http://www.fluoridealert.org/
  • Tooth brushes, tooth pastes, sealants and other facsimiles do little to prevent or cure tooth decay, because they do not address the root of the problem, but rather the symptoms.
  • It is store food that has given our children store teeth.
  • Acid on teeth is not a primary cause of tooth decay, teeth decay because tooth bones are destroyed possibly by active and passive nutrient transport, digestive enzymes in the mouth, or odontoclasts.
  • It is not just inadequate nutrition, but impaired nutrient absorption, particularly blocked calcium utilization in the intestine that can cause early childhood tooth decay.
  • Once decayed, baby teeth cannot grow back, however a protective layer of tooth dentin (secondary enamel) can be built to protect against infection and pain.
  • Even with severe decay on the first set of teeth, with specially reinforced nutrition, your child can have a healthy set of adult teeth.
  • Curing children's tooth decay means that they do not suffer pain or dental infections, in some cases, the rapid decay can be slowed to a crawl, but not yet stopped. A system of glandular supplementation based on anthropometrics, in addition to a special diet, may be able to entirely halt decay in every case.
  • Odontoclasia is a recognized form of children's tooth decay. It occurs even in some indigenous groups in tropical area's on their native diet. My guess as to the cause of decay is too much sweet foods, even natural ones. In the indigenous groups, even though some children have severe tooth decay, as adults they have straight and healthy teeth. This shows the power of a healthy diet with whole unrefined foods that include fat-soluble vitamins.
  • Night-time nursing does not cause, or promote tooth decay. Claiming night-time nursing causes tooth decay is simply anti-breastfeeding propaganda that is not scientifically based.
    See, Brian Palmer, DDS: http://www.brianpalmerdds.com/caries.htm
  • Night-time nursing, and night snacking helps your child grow strong and healthy since children grow when they sleep.
  • Still breastfeeding? Mothers need to follow a special diet too, following the protocol's listed in this article or on my website will help. http://www.yourreturn.org/Treatments/Teeth/index.htm
  • Tooth Decay is preventable in adults through balancing blood sugar levels. In adults this is done by avoiding and limiting most sugars, and by eating small meals with animal proteins and fat with lots of vegetables throughout the day. Such a protocol may work for some children as well.

Dietary Keys for Halting Tooth Decay in Children:

  • Raw or cooked grassfed bone marrow, as much as they'll eat. (frequently)
  • Raw or cooked, grassfed liver, as much as they can eat. (daily if possible)
  • Yellow butter, or a supplement of high vitamin butter oil or both (2-3x daily with meals) Let your child eat as much as they want, my daughter would steal sticks out of the refrigerator of the yellow Anchor New Zealand butter and just take big bites out of them.
  • High Vitamin/Fermented cod liver or skate liver oil. (2-3x daily with meals) Use cod liver oil in small doses like 1/32-1/8 of a teaspoon.

You must avoid and limit all sweets:

Sugar – White Sugar, Brown Sugar, Organic Sugar, Evaporated Cane Juice, Corn Syrup, Commercial Jams

Natural sweets and sweeteners need to be strictly limited, such as once per week or less often. This is because sweets cause a temporary imbalance in our blood sugar, which promotes tooth decay.

Rapadura, stevia, maple syrup, agave nectar, banana's, oranges, grapes, peaches, pineapples, cherry's, raisons, dried fruit, fruit juice, and other very sweet fruits.

Strictly reduce use of all other fruits, to ideally one meal a day or less. Cooked fruit seems to be better than raw fruit. So we use sparingly fruits like berries, pear's, kiwi's and apples.

Avoid all processed flour and flour products, anything baked, and all breakfast cereal's. The exception here is that homemade bread with freshly ground and then fermented grains is okay.

    Ideal Foods for young children:

Healthy fats from organic and free-range foods, are nourishing to the body and help build healthy bones.

Grassfed butter, raw grassfed cream, wild caught fish eggs, avocado's, grassfed bone marrow, grassfed bacon, lard, suet, tallow, duck fat, olives, coconuts.

    Excellent Foods:
Feed these foods to your child in proportion to their appetite for them.

Homemade, wild fish and free-range chicken bone broth's made with the organs.
    http://www.westonaprice.org/foodfeatures/broth.html

  • Raw grassfed whole fat milk
  • Raw or barely cooked farm eggs or yolks
  • Raw fish, is especially potent in reducing tooth decay, including oyster's and clams.
  • Fatty pieces of fish that have lots of fish fat.
  • Raw and rare cooked grassfed beef or lamb.
  • Raw grassfed cheese

    Balancing Foods:

  • Feed your child fermented foods like fermented sweet potatoes, sauerkraut, yogurt and kefir.

  • Cooked vegetables with lots of butter or cream added, like zucchini's, string beans, kale, and chard.

  • Seaweeds of every sort, it is high in trace minerals.

  • Raw fresh vegetable juice of about 90% organic celery, and about 10% organic parsley can be good if your child likes it.

Never ever force feed your child, if they do not want vegetables, then it is not good for them to eat it.

**You notice that I suggest eating some raw animal foods. These provide for optimal absorption and utilization. Eating raw animal proteins, such as raw fish, or raw beef is one of the most potent ways to heal and strengthen the body. Raw animal proteins and fat, are much more effective at healing the body than cooked animal proteins and fat. Raw grassfed milk from healthy cows is safer to drink than pasteurized milk, and it has probiotics to help aid digestion. Various types of raw foods pate's are very effective against tooth decay. If you are concerned about parasites from raw animal foods, freeze the meat up to 14 days prior to eating, freeze the fish 2-3 days, or marinate the fish cut into small pieces in lemon or lime juice for at least 7 hours. You should investigate your meat supplier, to make sure all animals are humanely treated, and only fed their natural diet. For more information please contact your local chapter of the Weston A. Price foundation to find certified humanely raised animal foods. Visit the Australian Weston A Price website here to find your local chapter.

  • Also STRICTLY Avoid:
Flour & Grain Products – White Flour, Wheat Flour, Organic Flour, any unsoaked grain products. Examples: bread, crackers, cookies, doughnuts, breakfast cereals, muffins, pastries, tortillas, bagels, and sandwiches (most store bought flour products even from the health food store need to be avoided).

Hydrogenated Oils - like Margarine and Low quality vegetable oils, Vegetable Oil, Soybean Oil, Crisco, Canola, and Safflower (replace with organic coconut oil, organic palm oil, organic olive oil or butter, suet, or tallow).

Any type of junk, convenience food, or modern fast foods

Soft Drinks, Nutrasweet, and anything with artificial flavors, artificial colors, or artificial ingredients

Infant Formula, Soymilk, Protein Powder, and Excess Tofu

    Fruit Juice

Pasteurized Milk, even if it is organic.

Non-grass-fed meat and eggs, and farm raised fish.

    Vaccinations, avoid this criminal act.

More information with reference links at: http://www.healingourchildren.net/vaccine_side_effects.htm

Vaccines can cause and promote tooth decay, there is evidence of this in dogs, and I know of one case of significant tooth decay caused by the DPT vaccine in a young girl.
