How
much does your midwifery work influence how you view and photograph women
and their babies?
I am half way through a general nursing course on my way to becoming a
midwife.. I really hate it.. I feel myself being pushed into the mould
to become part of the birthing machine.. I feel as though I can do more
for women outside the healthcare system. helping women to become empowered.
so that they will birth there own babies reguradless of where and who
is with them..
We are amazing to grow another human inside us and to birth, for me it
is all innate and all that wisdom is part of us, we need to learn to tap
into, to be resposible for ourselves, to hold our own hand, and to trust..
so I guess I will end up being a doula and a cosumer activist being with
women helping them to trust in their own wisdom...I guess all this
inflences my work, in that for me the images of birthing women and their
families are so real, and honest, and powerful, and can be such an empowering
experienc. I consider it such a incredible privilege to help make this
journey real for them. I really enjoy photographing people being real,
regardless of all the body bits, for me it is really inspiring..
Alternatively I would really like to photograph death in the same way
unhibited emotions being real, honest, vulnerable all the things we are
but do such a good job of hiding. |
