Trauma
and Birth Stress- PTSD after Childbirth
www.tabs.org.nz
PTSD suffered as a result of a traumatic birth experience has only
recently been recognized. Becoming a mother can put women under
considerable psychological pressure. Post-natal (or post-partum)
depression (PND or PPD) is a well-known and very common experience.
Potentially much longer lasting and insidious, however, is Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) arising from events before, during,
after or throughout the whole of the birth experience.
Originating in New Zealand, TABS is Trauma And Birth Stress, a Charitable
Trust that serves as a support group of mothers. We have in common
stressful and traumatic pregnancies or births that affected our
lives negatively for months or years afterwards. We formed TABS
because of the need to make PTSD known as a form of mental illness
that can happen following childbirth, but quite distinct from the
Baby Blues, Post Natal Depression (Post Partum Depression) and Post
Natal Psychosis.
The
Wannabee Foundation
http://www.wannabee.org.au
The Wannabee Foundation is Non Profit organization
committed to helping children and to assist parents to manage the
many challenges facing families who live with young highly sensitive
children.
Many highly sensitive children may be diagnosed/misdiagnosed as
having Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactive
Disorder, Autism, or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
The immune system can be weakened by exposure to chemicals, stress,
anxiety, negative thoughts, highly refined foods and other pollutants,
and many children show an amazing recovery when their immune system
is strengthened and their brain is receiving the right nutrients,
their body is having plenty of exercise and they have a strong sense
of self esteem.
The Wannabee Foundation is building a multi-media network to pass
on information to children, parents, teachers and child carers on
natural healthy ways to improve a child's health and learning ability
and the importance of love and respect for life.
For upcoming Wannabee events, visit
their site - also listed on our community

Kinma,
a small parent managed school in Terrey Hills in Sydney.
Kinma is firstly a primary and preschool, parent-managed and truly
child-centred in its approach. It gives children the opportunity
to learn at their own pace in a supportive, non-competitive environment.
Class sizes are small and multi-aged and the children develop warm
relationships with the same teacher over a number of years. Kinma
is the natural alternative to mainstream education.
Kinma is secondly a playgroup which meets every Monday from 9.30
am - 11.30 am in the preschool grounds. The children experience
a morning of unstructured play and the parents can enjoy a coffee
and chat. Many of the parents share an attachment parenting, or
natural parenting approach to child-rearing, so it is a really supportive
environment.
The Kinma website is www.kinma.nsw.edu.au
if you would like to find out more about the school.
